Toms River Hockey Club announces tryout plans and season information for the upcoming 2022-2023 season

The Toms River Hockey Club has been providing a competitive ice hockey program to players in the greater Toms River and Ocean County area for over 46 years.  The club takes great pride in it’s non-profit status, and will continue to offer a comprehensive and affordable “family first” hockey program for the 2022-2023 season.  We will again be offering club paid tournaments, 50% off tuitions for full time goalies, and multiple player family discounts.  We are again offering a limited travel Mite Developmental program, weekly goaltending clinics for Squirt through Bantam aged goaltenders, and will include club staff skills instructors at team practices throughout the year as well as provide specialized clinic sessions. The club has been growing consistently and we are very proud to announce our tryout dates and season information for the upcoming 2022/2023 Toms River Blackhawks travel ice hockey season.

Our club plans to skate competitive travel hockey teams from the 8U Mite through the 18U Midget Major levels to compete in the New Jersey Youth Hockey League (NJYHL), the Eastern Junior Elite Prospect League (EJEPL), and various tournaments throughout the region.

Our popular U6/U8 Mite ADM Program will continue to be offered for the 2022/2023 hockey season. This program puts a focus on player development and skills acquisition for the younger U6/U8 Mite players with a true 3:1 practice to game ratio over the course of the season, all in a FUN, fast paced, learning environment. The Mite ADM players will have approximately 40-50 on-ice practices, participate in the AAHA Mite Jamboree, play limited games later in the season, and participate in an end of season club paid tournament.  Our 6U/8U Mite ADM players will also have the opportunity to receive goaltending training at practices so they can have a chance to try out the position during the season. You can find all the information on our 6U/8U Mite ADM Program on our website HERE.

Our 8U Travel Mite, 10U Squirt, 12U Peewee, and 14U Bantam players will get on the ice in early July for 8 weeks of Summer Skills Sessions with their respective teams.  These sessions will run once a week until the end of August.  During those eight weeks, our 10U Squirt, 12U Peewee, and 14U Bantam players will also participate in off-ice dryland strength, agility and conditioning training.  Our “light” 8 week summer training schedule is intended to minimize conflict with other Spring sports and Summer activities as recommended by USA Hockey’s American Development Model.  We encourage all of our players to participate in other sports to help them become well rounded athletes.

Our 16U Midget Minor and 18U Midget Major teams will start team practices and training in July to get prepared for their respective short “High School friendly” NJYHL seasons. We will also offer a 16U-AA extended season offering this year, which will also be “High School friendly”, but at the same time offer more games and higher level competition and exposure by playing in a second league and select showcase events.

Our 10U Squirt, 12U Peewee, and 14U Bantam level teams will all receive additional skills clinics led by our TRHC Skills Instructors, as well as have our instructors present at team practices throughout the course of the season.  Our 10U, 12U, and 14U goaltenders will also receive weekly goaltender clinics throughout the season with our TRHC Goaltending Instructors.

We are once again planning to enter our top level teams at specific age levels into the EJEPL (https://www.ejepl.net/). These teams will play in EJEPL Showcases and have EJEPL league games scheduled over the course of the season.  The EJEPL, which consists of member clubs throughout the Eastern United States, gives our teams exposure to teams outside of our state and immediate area.

In addition to very competitive tuition, we will continue to offer a number of popular TUITION DISCOUNTS to our members.

  • GOALTENDERS - 50% OFF your season's tuition for all FULL TIME goalies from the 10U Squirt thru 16U/18U Midget levels (Does NOT apply to 8U Mites). The intent of this discount is to encourage our full time goalies to work with outside goaltending coaches, attend clinics of their choosing, and to offset costs of equipment. Please note that NO OTHER DISCOUNTS are applicable when a goaltender takes the 50% GOALIE DISCOUNT.

  • FAMILY DISCOUNT - Family discounts are available as follows:

    • Highest Fee Skater = Full Tuition

    • 2nd Highest Fee Skater = 20% discount

    • 3rd Highest Fee Skater = 50% discount
